At Moor House Nursery our aim is to foster an atmosphere of happiness, valuing each child as an individual. We encourage each child to request and show consideration for others; and to take pleasure in other children’s achievements.
All children regardless of gender race and disability will have equal access to the resources and activities presented in the nursery.
Activities may be repeated to allow for the participation of children who attend different sessions.
All activities, equipment and displays; e.g. friezes and books, will avoid representing stereotypes.
The staff will deliberately encourage children to experience a wide variety of activities and ideas to avoid stereotypes.
e.g. boys can do the ironing, girls can play football.
The staff need to develop a watchfulness regarding any discrimination against individuals because of difference in appearance, background or attitude.
e.g. watch boys do not dominate girls using construction toys do not let children laugh at another because of hair sticking up etc.
The Nursery reflects the muli-cultural society in which we live, within the children’s understanding.
We offer this through - books, pictures and displays reflecting racial differences
Discussion and celebration of a wide variety of festivals e.g. Diwali, Hannukah, St David’s Day, Christmas, Eid.
We concentrate on those festivals that reflect the experiences of the majority of children attending the Nursery at the time - Dressing up clothes and dolls provide opportunities to experience different cultures and styles. The different nutritional requirements of children, whether on health or faith grounds, is known and respected by all staff.
Children are encouraged to develop at their own pace and achieve their full potential in all aspects of Nursery life, emotionally, physically and academically.
